Value of dress or, Sheikh Saadi and his New Dress

Value of dress
or, Sheikh Saadi and his New Dress
You have heard the name of Sheikh Saadi who was a great poet of Iran. Once he was invited to the court of the Sultan. He started for the court of the king. On the way it became dark night and he took shelter in a rich man’s house. As he was in simple dress the noble man and his servants could not recognize him. They thought that he was an ordinary man and they did not take any care of Sheikh Saadi. They gave him very simple food and drink. The poet somehow passed the night and reached the king’s court. The king received him with respect and gave a fine dress. On his way back home. He again took shelter in the house of the same rich man. This time the noble man received him with much honour and ordered a rich dinner for him; but the poet did not eat the foods rather he began to put them into his pockets. The noble man and his servants were surprised at this and they wanted to know the reason of such behaviour. The poet said, “I’m doing the right thing because everything is done for my fine dress. Hearing this, the nobleman understood his mistake and said to Saadi, “Please pardon me.”

A Greedy Dog and a Piece of Meat

Once a dog stole a piece of meat from a butcher's shop. He was very glad to have it and thought of a heavy meal at home. He was greedy. On the way there was a small river. Over the river there was a bridge. The river was full to the brim. While the dog  was passing the bridge he saw his own shadow into the water. But he thought it was another dog. The shadow dog also had a piece of meat that was his own meat. But the dog was unable to understand the matter. To have that  piece of meat the dog barked and jumped  into the river. As he opened his mouth his own meat dropped into the water. He tried his best to have his own but in vain. The dog was foolish. So, he lost not only his meat but also his life. The teaching of the story is 'grasp all lost all'.
