The Hare and the Tortoise

The Hare and the Tortoise
Once there lived a hare in a forest. He was always proud of his speed in movement. A tortoise also lived there. The hare always teased the tortoise for its slow speed. One day the hare said, “You cannot run fast.” The tortoise became angry and said, “I know you can run fast but I am not lazy like you.” The hare became angry and said with a smile. “Let us run a race.” The tortoise accepted the proposal and they fixed a date. They went to a fox and made him agree to be the judge of their race. On the fixed day the hare and the tortoise came to the starting point. The fox was present some other animals came to enjoy the race and the race began. The hare started running very fast and after running a mile, the hare stopped and saw that the tortoise was far behind. Seeing this, the hare thought that he was sure of his success in the race and he decided to take rest and went to sleep in a bush. In the meantime the tortoise walked on and on and passed by the hare silently. The hare woke up and started running fast again. When he reached near the goal he noticed that the tortoise had already reached the winning point. Thus the hare lost the race, felt ashamed and went away saying. Slow and steady wins the race.

A Greedy Dog and a Piece of Meat

Once a dog stole a piece of meat from a butcher's shop. He was very glad to have it and thought of a heavy meal at home. He was greedy. On the way there was a small river. Over the river there was a bridge. The river was full to the brim. While the dog  was passing the bridge he saw his own shadow into the water. But he thought it was another dog. The shadow dog also had a piece of meat that was his own meat. But the dog was unable to understand the matter. To have that  piece of meat the dog barked and jumped  into the river. As he opened his mouth his own meat dropped into the water. He tried his best to have his own but in vain. The dog was foolish. So, he lost not only his meat but also his life. The teaching of the story is 'grasp all lost all'.
