Abu Ben Adham, a Lover of Mankind

Abu Ben Adham was a good man. He was very honest and pious. He helped all men and women in distress.People said,  "Ask Abu and he will do it for you." People liked him.  One night  Abu was sleeping in his bed. There was a strange light in his room. He woke up and saw an angel in the room. The angel was writing attentively in a  book of gold and was writing the names of the persons who loved people selflessly. Abu asked the angel if his name was there. In reply the angel said that his name was not there. Abu then requested to put his name in the list because he loved mankind and his fellow-brothers. So, he belonged to the groups of lovers of  mankind. Hearing this, the angel went away talking down his request. He again appeared the next night. Abu  was very curious to know about the names of the list.The angel showed him the list and he found that his name was at the top of the list. The angel told Abu that it was his reward from Allah  who is just and fair. 

A Dove and an Ant

 Once there lived a dove in a certain forest.It was passing its days happily.One day while it was sitting on a tree beside a river, it saw an ant. The ant was thirsty and so it went to the river to  drink water. Suddenly the ant was swept away by a wave and it was about to die. Seeing it, the dove plucked a leaf and dropped it on the water of the river. Te poor ant  got on the leaf and came to the land. It thanked the dove and promised to help it. One day while the dove was sitting on a branch of the same tree, a hunter came there and aimed at the dove.When the hunter was about to shoot the dove, the ant bit him in the leg. The hunter missed his aim and the dove flew away. Thus the ant saved the life of the dove also. Since then both of them became friends. From this story, we learn that we should help others in danger.

A little Learning is a Dangerous thing Or, Learn more to avoid danger

 There lived a man  in a village. He had a great attraction to English and so he went to a teacher. The teacher began to teach him but the man was dull-headed. His  teacher tried his best to teach him but he could not develop his knowledge  of English.He could not understand the rules of grammar.He learnt only three words -'yes', 'no' and 'very good' but he did not know their meaning. In reply to anybody's question, he would say  either 'yes' or, 'no' or 'very good'.

One day a theft took place in the village. The police officer came and he was an English man. He  asked everybody  if he knew anything about the theft and the villagers replied that they did not know about it.At last the officer came to the man who knew three English words and asked him if he had stolen. The man replied, "Yes." When the officer asked him if he would tell him why he had stolen, the man said, "No." After that when the officer said, "We will arrest you." The man said, "Very good." Thus he was arrested and put to jail. The story proves that  a little learning is dangerous thing.

An English Poet and his Friend

 An English poet was staying in Italy for the benefit of his health. During his stay there, he received an unpaid letter from one of his friend in England. The poet had to pay double postage to take delivery of the letter. But it contained nothing but the sentence, "I am well". The poet became very annoyed at this because he got the news no importance after paying double postage.So, he wanted to teach him a good lesson. The poet procured a heavy stone. He packed it up in a fine box and wrapped the box with colorful wrapping paper Then he posted the box to his friend's address with the words written on it "Carriage to be paid on delivery." Receiving it, his friend thought that the content of the parcel would be valuable and so gladly paid the heavy postage for carrying it.With  great hope in mind, he opened the box. To his utter surprise he found nothing but a simple stone in it.The friend could understand the point. In fact, he got his due reward for his fun.

A Greedy Dog and a Piece of Meat

 Once a dog stole a piece of meat from a butcher's shop. He was very glad to have it and thought of a heavy meal at home. He was greedy. On the way there was a small river. Over the river there was a bridge. The river was full to the brim. While the dog  was passing the bridge he saw his own shadow into the water. But he thought it was another dog. The shadow dog also had a piece of meat that was his own meat. But the dog was unable to understand the matter. To have that  piece of meat the dog barked and jumped  into the river.

As he opened his mouth his own meat dropped into the water. He tried his best to have his own but in vain. The dog was foolish. So, he lost not only his meat but also his life. The teaching of the story is 'grasp all lost all'.  

Traveling

Traveling means going from one place to another.Traveling has a great educative value. Books give us only bookish knowledge. It helps to know about different people and their ways of life.much more of things.If we see those with our own eyes.Traveling expands the mental horizon of man. It removes our prejudices,  superstitions and other limitations.The man who passes life in a particular place and never leaves his place to visit other places and his historical things has a very narrow outlook. It is true that traveling helps to gather experience and wisdom comes from experience. So education is not perfect without traveling.In fact, a traveler becomes what we call all around man.It gives us pleasure.Moreover, it teaches us to bear hardship. It  also gives us good training for success in life. Our educational institute should arrange tours or visits to the places of importance or things of historical interest.

A Tea Stall

 A tea stall is a small shop which sells ready tea with some dry foods.It is a common sight in our country. It is usually found in cities, towns, market places, railway stations, bus stands and near offices, hospitals, mills and factories and even in villages. A tea  stall opens early in the morning and closes very late at night. In some important places like railway stations, steamer terminals etc the tea stall remains open round the clock. It is not well furnished. There are some chairs, table and benches. A tea stall needs some materials to get tea ready. There is an oven where a kettle is burning. There is also a pan of milk to prepare tea. Hot tea, biscuits, cakes, bread, bananas, betel leaf, cigarettes etc are sold here. One or two  boys serve the things to the customers. The manager manages everything and collects money. A tea stall is a noisy and busy place. It is a meeting place of different classes of people. People of different classes visit it. They  often discuss politics and  other matters. Sometimes they exchange hot words. However, a tea stall should be kept neat and clean.
