Mother Teresa, a Great Woman in the World

Mother Teresa was dedicated soul. Her original name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu. She was born in Mecidonia in 1910.  She was an Albanian by birth but she became an Indian. 

At eighteen, she decided to become a nun. She came to India in 1928 to serve the people. She was shocked to see the sad condition of the poor people in the streets of Kolkata. Then she became an Indian citizen. She started her life in Kolkata as a teacher in  a convent college. 

She  established 'Nirmal Hridoy' meaning 'Pure Heart'. This home became the shelter for the sufferers. Teresa and her fellow nuns gathered the dying people from the streets and brought them to their home. Teresa began to serve  the poor and the helpless. Her activities spread all over the world. 

She received a number of awards. She got the Nehru Prize in 1972, the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and the Bharat Ratna in 1980. 

Mother Teresa died at the age of 87 on 5 September, 1997. Her name will remain immortal in the hearts of the people of ages for ever.
