The cow

The cow is a domestic animal. It is very mild and gentle. It is liked by all.

It has four legs. As a result, it is a four footed animal. It has two eyes, two ears, and a long tail. There is a tuft of hair at the end of its tail. It has a long head with two horns over it. Its body is covered with short hair or fur. Cows are of various kinds and colors. They are found all over the world.

The cow is mild and gentle. It gives birth to one calf at a time. It is fond of her calf. The cow lives on grass and straw. It is fond of oil cake and bran. It is also called four footed animal.

The cow is very useful animal. It gives us milk. Milk is an ideal food. We get butter, ghee, curd and many other sweetmeats from its milk. Cow-dung is a good manure. We use it in the paddy field as natural fertilizer. Shoes and bags are made of its skin. Its bones and horns are used in making combs and many other fancy goods. Sometimes we use them in ploughing the field.

The cow is very useful to us. We should take care of it.

                                                              A cook and his master A clever cook and his ready wit A cook once roasted a duck for his master. The roast looked so delicious that the cook could not resist the temptation and ate up one of the drumsticks. When the master sat down to eat, he quickly noticed the missing of the leg and asked him about the other leg. The cook told him that the duck has only one leg. A Greedy Dog and a Piece of Meat

 Once a dog stole a piece of meat from a butcher's shop. He was very glad to have it and thought of a heavy meal at home. He was greedy. On the way there was a small river. Over the river there was a bridge. The river was full to the brim. While the dog  was passing the bridge he saw his own shadow into the water. But he thought it was another dog. The shadow dog also had a piece of meat that was his own meat. But the dog was unable to understand the matter. To have that  piece of meat the dog barked and jumped  into the river. As he opened his mouth his own meat dropped into the water. He tried his best to have his own but in vain. The dog was foolish. So, he lost not only his meat but also his life. The teaching of the story is 'grasp all lost all'.
