Definition:
Like other languages English Language has some rules and regulations that helps the reader or the speaker to do his best or to deliver his speech correctly. The sum total rules are known as English Grammar.
Content of English Grammar:
1. Orthography
2. Etymology
3. Syntax
4. Punctuation
5. Prosody.
Orthography is a set of conventions for writing a language, including norms of spelling, word boundaries, capitalization, hyphenation, and emphasis.
Etymology is the study of the origin and evolution of words—including their constituent units of sound and meaning—across time.
Syntax is the sequence in which the subject (S), verb (V) and object (O) usually appear in sentences.
Punctuation marks are marks indicating how a piece of written text should be read (silently or aloud) and, consequently, understood. Punctuation includes space between words and both obsolete and modern signs.
Prosody (poetry), the study and the actual use of meters and forms of versification, (linguistics) the study of suprasegmental elements of speech , (music) the manner of setting words to music, (software) a cross-platform XMPP server.
