Superlative to Comparative:

Structure: Subject + Verb + Comparative adjective + than + any other/ most other + rest all other part.

  • Salma is the best of all the singers.
    = Salma is better than any other singers.
  • Rina is the tallest of all the girls.
    = Rina is taller than all other girls.
 [NB: ‘all’ থাকলে পরিবরতিত হয় না।] 

  • Seema is not the most intelligent girl.
    = Seema is less intelligent than any other girl.

    [Note: Negative ‘Notথাকলে ¨ less হয়]
Superlative to positive

 Structure: No other/ Very few + next part of adjective + Verb + as + Positive + as
                    + Subject (+ next part).

        Sentence এ  

        One of the  থাকলে   Very few  হয় ।
        Others case এর ক্ষেত্রে   No other  হয়।
  • Nazrul was the best poet.
= No other poet was as good as Nazrul.
  • Shakespeare was one of the best dramatists in English Literature.
= Very few dramatists were as good as Shakespeare in English Literature.
  • The rose is one of the most beautiful flowers.
= Very few flowers are as beautiful as the rose.
  • English is the easiest language in the world.
= No other language is as easy as English Language in the world.

Comparative to positive:

Structure: Next part of adjective + Verb + Negative + as + Positive + as + Subject.

  • Iron is more useful than all other metals.
    = All other metals are not as useful as Iron.
NB. If  মূল sentence negative  nq and adjective wecixZ A_© cÖKvk K‡i Z‡e  subject AcwiewZ©Z _v‡K|  positive Gi †¶‡Î  Affirmative  nq |
  • India is not less important than Russia.
    = Russia is as important as India.
Positive to Comparative:

Structure: Next part of adjective + Verb + Negative + Comparative + than + Subject.

  • Karim is as strong as Rahim.
    = Rahim is not stronger than Karim.
  • My pen is not as expensive as Alam’s.
    = Alam’s pen is more expensive than mine.
[If  যুক্ত মূল sentence না বোধক হয়,তবে তা অপরিবর্তিত অংশ affirmative হয়|]

  • Very few metals are as valuable as diamond.
    = Diamond is more valuable than most other metals.
[If যুক্ত মূল sentence  ‘very few’ দ্বারা শুরু হলে তবে   comparative  most other/ some other হয় এবং কোন  negative হয় না। ] 

  • No other fruit is as sweet as mango.
    = Mango is sweeter than any other fruit.
[If the sentence begins with ‘no other’ no negative is remained and sits ‘any other’.]

A Greedy Dog and a Piece of Meat

 Once a dog stole a piece of meat from a butcher's shop. He was very glad to have it and thought of a heavy meal at home. He was greedy. On the way there was a small river. Over the river there was a bridge. The river was full to the brim. While the dog  was passing the bridge he saw his own shadow into the water. But he thought it was another dog. The shadow dog also had a piece of meat that was his own meat. But the dog was unable to understand the matter. To have that  piece of meat the dog barked and jumped  into the river. As he opened his mouth his own meat dropped into the water. He tried his best to have his own but in vain. The dog was foolish. So, he lost not only his meat but also his life. The teaching of the story is 'grasp all lost all'.
